The Polk County NC School Board is currently a non-partisan board, meaning those running for board don't have an R or a D next to their name which helps identify their overall principles and values.

Requiring candidates running for school board to declare a party affiliation (Republican, Democrat, Libertarian) is important to many voters. This was done a few years ago for persons running for Judge positions. They had to first declare their party affiliation. Voters feel much better informed about a candidate knowing their party affiliation.
